Holy Family PS Choir Leading the Way Again
The highly successful choir of Holy Family PS, Derry are on their travels again over the St. Patrick’s Day holidays. This time the Aileach Road school will make the long journey to London to be Northern Ireland’s sole representative in the Barnardo’s National Choir of the Year Finals which will be held in the Royal Festival Hall, South Bank, London.
This is a great achievement for the school as they were in against tremendous competition to reach the finals. While the choir are travelling with optimism as they have previously won this highly prestigious competition, they know that the standard of opposition will be excellent. Among the other finalists are Hereford Cathedral Junior School Choir, BBC Songs of Praise finalists in 2016, Hymers College Junior Choir, BBC Songs of Praise finalists in 2013 and Lindley Junior School, BBC Songs of Praise winners and Barnardo’s Choir of the Year winners in 2016.
The Holy Family choir, conducted by Mrs Claire Doherty and accompanied by Trevor Burnside, will be performing two very challenging pieces, “Goliath” and “When I Grow Up.” After months of practice and rehearsal, the pupils are really looking forward to performing these pieces in front of a capacity audience of over 2,500 people and all at “The Family” are sure that the choir will do Derry and Northern Ireland proud.
While the prime focus of the trip is to put on our best performance possible, the choir will avail of the great educational opportunities accessible in London and as part of the trip the choir will attend a performance of “School of Rock” in the New London theatre, visit the National History museum, the National Art Gallery and finish the trip off with a bit of shopping in Hamleys.
We wish all the pupils every success on their great adventure.
